Dane County Declares Slow, No Wake Restriction for Lake Kegonsa in Addition to Mendota, Monona and Waubesa

August 23, 2018
County Executive

Slow, No Wake Orders Effective Immediately

Due to recent flooding, Dane County is declaring a slow, no wake restriction for the entire surface of Lakes Kegonsa in addition to the restrictions already on Mendota, Monona, and Waubesa. The restrictions for watercraft to slow down will take effect immediately today.

Given the amount of rain this week, the high lake levels exceed the threshold for slow, no wake requirement. The rainfall this week set the record for the State of Wisconsin for rainfall in a 24 hour period. Dane County is ordering 100,000 more sandbags and the state is moving its sandbagger to Dane County. Lake Monona and Waubesa have just surpassed the 100 year flood level.

Deputies from the Dane County Sheriff's Office Marine and Trail Division will be enforcing the slow, no wake restrictions on area waterways.

During high water levels, it is important for property owners on all lakes to prevent their piers from floating and creating navigational hazards by securely fastening the pier sections to the frame, adding weight, or removing the pier from the water.?
