Approval of new department heads highlights Thursday agenda

Putting the finishing touches on a productive year, the Dane County Board is poised to finalize promotion of two long-time public employees to key leadership positions.

At its meeting Thursday, the board will vote on the County Executive’s appointment of Greg Brockmeyer as director of the Department of Administration and Laura Hicklin as director of the Department of Land and Water Resources.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Room 201 of the City-County Building.

A Madison native now living in Verona, Brockmeyer has worked in management positions with Dane County since 1997, most recently as the Director of Facilities and Services. He holds a B.A. in Business Management from Upper Iowa University and a M.S certificate from Michigan State University in the College of Human Ecology.

As director of the DOA, Brockmeyer reports directly to the County Executive and manages all other department heads while also overseeing the annual budgeting process. His base salary will begin at $146,000.

Hicklin grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in International Agriculture and Natural Resources. She has worked for Dane County since 1999 in a variety of positions related to the environment, parks and natural resources including managing the county Conservation Fund. Her base salary will begin at $129,167.

“The citizens of Dane County are fortunate to have experienced, well-qualified employees like Greg and Laura ready to serve in these important positions,” said County Board Chair Sharon Corrigan. “I look forward to working with both of them as we head into a new year.”
