2016 Weather Spotter Classes

In conjunction with Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week, Dane County Emergency Management is hosting the National Weather Service’s Severe Weather Spotter Class on Wednesday April 6, 2016.  It will be offered twice, from 1:30-3:30pm and again from 6:30-8:30pm at the Verona Fire Station (101 Lincoln Street, Verona, WI   53593).  The class is FREE of charge and no registration is required.

 

Severe weather is the most prevalent hazard in Dane County.  Being prepared for severe weather includes not only learning about what is in the skies, but taking action to prepare your household before severe weather strikes.  Specific actions should include learning about Dane County’s warning system and signing up for specific Dane County alerts at  https://em.countyofdane.com/warning/default.aspx.

 

Dane County’s Executive Joe Parisi believes personal preparedness flourishes through partnerships,  “No one agency can do it all alone, improving personal preparedness requires knowledge, education, and experience built through partnerships.  We want to thank the Verona Fire Department for partnering with Dane County and the National Weather Service to provide this educational opportunity.” 

 

Emergency Management Director Charles A. Tubbs, Sr. wants to remind people that being prepared requires an investment of time.  “Being prepared is a combination of having knowledge, skills, and stuff.  The Severe Weather Spotters class is an opportunity to build personal knowledge about severe weather.”
