County Board
The Dane County Board of Supervisors will meet tonight at 7:00pm. At the meeting the Board will recognize May 19-25 as Emergency Medical Services Week. The week distinguishes the community services provided by paramedics, EMT, and other EMS personnel.
The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) has given the 2024 EMS Week the theme “Honoring Our Past, Forging our Future” to celebrate the courage and leadership of both experienced and prospecting EMS first-responders.
Supervisor McCarville (District 22) said of EMS Week, “EMS Week is a fantastic opportunity to honor the dedication and bravery of emergency medical service professionals who save lives and provide critical care every day. It's a time to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of these heroes to our communities.”
Additionally, May marks Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Heritage Month. The month is designated to appreciate the vital roles Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have played in our shared history.
"Asian American, Pacific Islanders and Desi Americans make large contributions to the fabric of American society both locally and nationally. As we celebrate this month, let's take a moment to reflect on the challenges our communities still face while celebrating the strength of country whose foundation is the many people and cultures that comprise it,” Supervisor Chawla (District 6) remarked.
Supervisor Yang (District 19) added, “Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Heritage Month is a time to honor the remarkable contributions and rich cultural legacies of these communities, which have significantly shaped our nation's history and diversity. Celebrating this month allows us to recognize the strength, creativity, and resilience of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American individuals who enrich our society in countless ways. The recently signed bill by Governor Evers to include Hmong history in curriculum is a step in the right direction to reflect these contributions.”
