Lussier Family Heritage Center Offering Weeklong Junior Naturalist Summer Camp
Camp registration opens February 1st
MADISON, WI - January 25, 2024 - The Lussier Family Heritage Center, a Dane County Parks facility, is offering weeklong Junior Naturalist summer camp programs for youth ages 6 – 14. Camp participants will explore Dane County Parks, connect with the outdoors, and gain a deeper understanding of their surrounding environment.
“Our Junior Naturalist Summer Camp is a great way for Dane County youth to connect with the outdoors and have some fun,” said County Executive Joe Parisi. “The summer programs provide an excellent opportunity for kids to learn, make new friends, and develop a greater appreciation for Dane County’s natural resources.”
Junior Naturalist Summer Camp is a full-day, weeklong program geared towards working families. It is comparably priced to other childcare options, but with engaging outdoor activities that allow young individuals to explore all of the fun activities Dane County Parks have to offer. On any given day during the week, campers may participate in fort building, hiking, nature studies, team building and so much more.
“We are beyond excited to offer expanded summer camp programming in Dane County Parks,” said Dane County Parks Engagement & Visitor Services Manager Lael Pascual. “Campers will be given the opportunity to build their confidence through outdoor exploration, environmental education, and recreation activities. We hope this camp provides a positive and fun experience for each camper that they will always remember.”
Camp is divided into four age groups; each age group has a unique theme that changes every week. From investigating native Wisconsin wildlife, water, and trees, to rock climbing, canoeing, camping, and cooking over a campfire, there is something unique and exciting every day. There is even a Hunter Safety themed week, where the 12-14 year olds will earn their Hunter Safety certification through a partnership with the Wisconsin DNR.
Tuition/fee assistance is available for Dane County residents with financial limitations that may prevent them from registering their child and/or dependent for a summer camp session.
