County Board to vote on expanding UTV/ATV recreational countywide

In 2022 Dane County conducted a pilot program permitting the use of all-terrain vehicles (ATV)s and utility terrain vehicles (UTV)s on County Trunk Highway Y in Mazomanie. The program was a success and demonstrated that ATVs and UTVs can safely operate on county roads when certain conditions are met.  
 
In response to the successful pilot program, the County Board will be voting on 2023 OA-031 which will create a permit process affording a person, organization or municipality the opportunity to expand the use of ATVs and UTVs on certain County Trunk Highways.   
 
“This is an exciting day for Dane County as ATV and UTV recreation continues to grow.  More and more Dane County citizens are finding ways to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and this new permit process will safely and efficiently facilitate an even further expansion of ATV/UTV recreation,” said County Board Supervisor Jeff Weigand (District 20). 
 
If the ordinance amendment is approved, permits shall be required to establish new ATV/UTV routes on County Trunk Highways. Applications for permits will be made available at the following site: https://highway.countyofdane.com/permits.
