Dane County Sheriff’s deputies working traffic enforcement grants are seeing excessive speeds.
During a recent grant deployment on U.S. Highway 151, seven deputies were kept busy stopping speeders, or in some cases attempting to stop them. Drivers were seen going at speeds of up to 140 mph. A significant number of stops were for drivers going over 90 mph.
At least two drivers, a motorcyclist going 140 mph and a Kia that reached speeds of 125 mph, eluded deputies.
“Excessive speed is one of the primary factors in deadly and serious injury crashes. I travel these same roads with my family every day, and as your Sheriff, I want to send a strong message that this blatant disregard for safety and the law won’t be tolerated,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Madison Police and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Safety, will continue to participate in traffic safety initiatives throughout the summer.
