Fatal Crash in the Village of Dane

One man has died in a three-vehicle crash that occurred in the Village of Dane today. Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, Dane Fire and EMS, along with Waunakee EMS, responded to 101 West Main Street at 12:11 pm.

 

Witnesses reported a Ford F-350 pick-up truck left the BP gas station on Main Street at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Military Road and Main Street and hit a Nissan Frontier pick-up traveling eastbound on Main Street. The Ford pick-up then side swiped a Ford Escape that was stopped at the stop sign on CTH DM, causing it to roll over.

The 52-year-old man driving the Ford Escape was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office after his family has been notified. The 73-year-old male driver of the Nissan Frontier was not injured in the crash.

The driver of the Ford F-350, Maxwell Hamilton, age 22 of Lodi, was placed through field sobriety testing and transported to a local hospital for a blood draw before being booked into the Dane County Jail. He is facing a tentative charge of Homicide by Negligent Use of a Motor Vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction team also responded to assist with the investigation.
