COUNTY BOARD TO RECEIVE PRESENTATION OF MAPS FROM NON-PARTISAN REDISTRICTING COMMISSION

The Dane County Board of Supervisors will receive a presentation on Monday, October 4 at 6:00pm from the Dane County Redistricting Commission. Members of the public are encouraged to attend to hear the presentation of the maps to the Board. The information to connect to the meeting will be available on the agenda by October 1, and can be found on the County’s Legislative Information Center: https://dane.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx
The Non-Partisan Redistricting Commission has been meeting over the course of the last year to become familiar with the process, redistricting concepts, and outreach strategies. Over the last several weeks, the Commission has been reviewing maps submitted by members of the public. At the Commission’s meeting on September 30, they will narrow down the map submissions, and decide on up to three maps to present to the County Board.
Following the presentation of the three maps to the Board, the County’s Executive Committee will meet on October 6 at 5:00pm and, if needed, October 7 at 5:00pm to review and discuss the three maps and recommend one map to the Board for consideration.
The one map the Board receives from the Executive Committee will be available on the Dane County Planning and Development’s website shortly after the Executive Committee’s recommendation for the public to view. The maps will also be printed and will be available for public viewing in the Cambridge Public Library, DeForest Public Library, Mount Horeb Public Library, Mazomanie Free Library, Oregon Public Library, and the Atrium at 2300 South Park Street in Madison. The maps will be available until October 14, when the County Board will hold a hearing for members of the public to testify on the tentative map. Immediately following the hearing on October 14th, the County Board will take action to approve a tentative map.
"I encourage the public to view the work of the Redistricting Commission and contact the County Board with input. The map the Board eventually approves will be the map of County Board districts for the next 10 years. It is important that the public has input into their representation," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher.
The approved tentative map will then go to Dane County municipalities to review and adjust their boundaries, with the intention to have it back to the County Board for final consideration on November 18.
