The Dane County Board of Supervisors will hear a presentation from John Welch, Director of Waste and Renewables, at its meeting tonight. The virtual meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., information to connect and register to speak is available on the agenda.

The presentation will highlight how Dane County’s waste is being used as a resource with an update on the economic and environmental benefits of the Department’s work and the Renewable Natural Gas Plant.  The department will also outline the timeline for closure of the Rodefeld landfill and the vision for a new landfill site that will move Dane County closer to a circular economy.

"The innovative technology that is used at the landfill is remarkable. I’m proud that Dane County is a leader in providing environmentally-friendly waste management and renewable energy solutions," said County Board Supervisor Ann DeGarmo (District 33) who serves on the Public Works and Transportation Committee.

The Waste and Renewables Department is responsible for the management and operation of Dane County’s landfills, renewable natural gas facilities, Clean Sweep, construction and demolition (C&D) recycling facility, and various other recycling programs.

"Our Waste and Renewables department is leading the way on landfill innovation. I look forward to hearing from them," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher. "A few years ago we had the opportunity to tour the landfill and the biogas facility and it really is something to see waste turned into a clean, renewable resource."
