In recognition of Dane County’s leadership on renewable energy, RENEW Wisconsin has named Dane County “Renewable Energy Pioneer of the Year.” RENEW announced Dane County’s award, along with several other awards, at RENEW’s 10th annual Renewable Energy Summit.

“In bestowing this honor on Dane County, we’d like to call attention to its aggressive and systematic approach to advancing clean energy locally, moving itself and its municipalities closer to carbon neutrality,” said Michael Vickerman, RENEW Wisconsin Policy Director in a recorded video announcing the award. In the video, Vickerman describes several Dane County initiatives, including the landfill biogas project that produces renewable natural gas, as well as solar partnerships with MGE and Alliant Energy that will result in 100% renewable electricity for all county operations by 2023.

"We're proud of achieving 100% renewable status for county operations and grateful to RENEW Wisconsin for recognizing this incredible milestone,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “I hope this award inspires other local governments to follow our lead. Our experience demonstrates that clean energy not only costs less, it also creates local jobs and prosperity.”
