At their meeting on Thursday, Dane County’s Health and Human Needs Committee will review and make recommendations on four resolutions awarding funds from the County’s Affordable Housing Development Fund (AHDF).

The purpose of the AHDF is to encourage the development of affordable housing in Dane County by using the AHDF as a means to leverage additional resources from project partners. Additional resources might include CDBG/HOME funds, affordable housing tax credits, private financing, grants and other sources that will serve to address the shortage of affordable housing in the County.

"We continue to have an affordable housing crisis in Dane County. It is going to take time and a commitment from the residents of the County to make meaningful change and make sure everyone has an affordable place to live," said County Board Chair Analiese Eicher. "The Affordable Housing Development Fund is a great resource for development of affordable housing for our most vulnerable residents."

The projects that will be reviewed at Thursday’s meeting include:

  • A 100 unit building, that will be 100% affordable. The Glen Grove Apartments will be constructed on N. Windsor Ave in the Village of Cottage Grove. The AHDF award for this project is $1,550,000.

  • A 51 unit building at 204 Blue Mound Street in Mount Horeb that will include 46 affordable units. The AHDF award for this project is $1,350,000.

  • A project in the Village of McFarland that will have 51 units, with 48 of them being affordable. The AHDF award for this project is $608,241.

  • An AHDF award of $1,187,500 for a project that consists of 110 units in two buildings at 1212 Huxley Street in the City of Madison.

"I’m pleased to see that these funds are being used throughout Dane County. Affordable housing is an issue felt by communities both big and small," said Supervisor Melissa Ratcliff (District 36).
